The Logan Brothers

The Logan Brothers are Steve Barbee, Jonathan Satz, and Danny Brennan-Combs.

Steve and Jonathan have been playing music together in some form or fashion since 1977. In college, they played at coffee houses, open mics, and occasional talent contests. They took the name The Logan Brothers for their current-day band to honor their past: they met at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and they are like Brothers (of different mothers), with over 40 years of friendship.

Steve has been singing in choirs since he was 6 years old. He was inspired to perform by watching his older sister's folk-duo during the Peter, Paul, and Mary era. His musical tastes were influenced by the records his older brothers listened to: The Beatles, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper and the like. Steve tried learning the guitar at age 12, but didn't get serious about it until he heard John Denver play "Rocky Mountain High" the year he graduated from high school.  Besides playing on and off with Jonathan in and after college, he performed as a solo musician and in various ensembles for many years while living in Salt Lake City. Jonathan began playing guitar in high school and also sang in choirs since he was 14 years old. He's been singing ever since in community choirs and musical theater. The Logan Brothers is Jonathan's first formal band.

After Steve moved to Glenwood Springs in 2004 (where Jonathan already lived), Jonathan and Steve revived their musical partnership and began playing at local open mics and other venues. After a couple of forays with other musicians, and honing their sound as a duo, they formed The Logan Brothers and played their first gig in September 2012. They have been playing gigs in the area ever since (click to see where The Logan Brothers have played). Steve plays a number of instruments, but with The Logan Brothers he focuses on acoustic and electric guitars and harmonica and sings lead vocals. A goal since high school, but not begun until he turned 50, Jonathan learned electric bass, which he plays for The Logan Brothers. He also sings backup harmonies. The Logan Brothers has been mostly a trio (adding drums) since December of 2014.

Danny joined The Logan Brothers in October, 2016. Starting to drum as a young teenager, Danny played his first gig at fifteen, which sealed his love for drumming in a band to this day. After playing in several bands in the Denver area where he grew up, Danny moved to The Roaring Fork Valley in 1978. Based in Glenwood Springs, Danny was a member of Nobody's BusinessThe BizWide Load, and then The Rock Dogs, a band that performed in the valley for 20 years. Danny took a brief hiatus from drumming after the Rock Dogs disbanded before joining The Logan Brothers.
